First time I saw dog racing was in the 1959 movie Hole In The Head starring Frank Sinatra. I saw the movie when I was a kid. The dog racing scene was filmed at Flagler. Always wanted to go to a dog tack when I grew up. Dog racing was huge once especially in Florida. Now with ban it pretty much puts an end to dog racing in the US. Florida is a strange state. They offered dog racing, Jai-Lai and horse racing. They were against casino gambling except on Indian reservations.
The dream was after Atlantic City opened to permit casinos on Miami Beach which was on the decline. It would have worked too. Had they put casinos in the big hotels like the Fontainebleau it would have rivaled Las Vegas. The casinos are at the tracks and on the reservations now and it just isn't the same.

I always thought Florida was a country unto itself, when I worked there. Thought it had at least 3 states Florida North , Florida Middle and Florida South.

Of all the issues in this nation some of the silliest seem to surface around horses and dogs and cats and animals in general. Common sense seems long gone.

Florida voters on Tuesday approved an amendment that strips the state legislature of the power to expand gambling, including sports betting.

Amendment 3 says the only way casino gambling can be approved is through a statewide initiative placed on the ballot by citizen petition. Exceptions were made for casinos on Indian reservations.

Amendment 13 in Florida bans dog racing in 2020. However the amendment is so broad that who knows what the radicals will go after next? Hunting? Fishing? Horse racing?

At this point I would guess that either the Seminoles make some kind of deal with the State and they don't appear to be interested or the electorate would have to approve it. I don't gamble at Indian casinos since they have no casino control commission so we are fucked in Florida.
